Office Space Design in the Changing Workplace

 

Most of us in the corporate real estate world agree that the workplace is rapidly changing. These dramatic changes to the workplace are a result of the emerging utilization of mobile devices , cloud computing, changing demographics in the workforce and corporate efficiency initiatives. Over the past couple of years there has been an increasing focus on improving workspace utilization.

 

The advent of cloud computing and mobile devices allows us to move away from personal desktop technology, paper and personal files that have anchored the worker to his or her desk. The ability to be mobile within the office allows us to work more collaboratively and in less overall space than previously. Today the term “collaborative workspace” is a hot buzzword and as Stephen Searer pointed out in his recent post that a lot has been written about workspace collaboration, but the key to effective workplaces is focus, not collaboration.
